Sierra Leone seeks UNIDO partnership for growth in agriculture and minerals

In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone met with Mr. Gerd Muller, the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to discuss strengthening partnerships in agriculture, minerals, and green development. The meeting aimed at advancing Sierra Leone's developmental goals through strategic collaborations.

Mr. Muller expressed his commitment to enhancing partnerships in agriculture and mineral resource management. He highlighted the potential within Sierra Leone's natural resources and the importance of forming strategic alliances. Reflecting on past initiatives, he mentioned a UNIDO conference held last year in Riyadh that focused on bolstering the mining sector and aiding Sierra Leone in securing legal representation for international negotiations.

President Bio outlined his administration's key programs, emphasizing a flagship initiative on food security currently in its preparatory phase. He stressed the need for resources and partnerships at both continental and global levels while acknowledging climate change threats. The President reiterated Sierra Leone’s commitment to sustainable development.

Additionally, President Bio discussed aspirations for value addition through agro-processing to enhance food security by diversifying agricultural outputs. He emphasized involving research institutions and stakeholders to promote sustainable growth within Sierra Leone's agricultural sector.

The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing a shared commitment to fostering collaboration and driving development in vital sectors of Sierra Leone.
