The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, recently met with members of the Economic Affairs Standing Committee (EASC) of the ECOWAS Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC). The meeting took place at the Commission's Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, on October 31, 2024.
The delegation was led by its Chairman and High Commissioner of The Gambia to Nigeria and Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, H.E. Mohamadou Musa Njie. The visit aimed to introduce the EASC members and their initiatives to Dr. Touray and seek support from the Commission for their activities.
Present at the meeting were Mrs. Massandjé Toure-Litse, ECOWAS Commissioner in charge of Economic Affairs and Agriculture, representatives of EASC, and staff members of the ECOWAS Commission.
The PRC established the Economic Affairs Standing Committee as an advisory body. Its role is to provide effective mechanisms for advising, monitoring, and identifying obstacles or challenges that may hinder policy implementation by the ECOWAS Council of Ministers and the Authority of Heads of State and Government. Additionally, it offers guidance on potential pathways for progress within the Community.
