H.E. Damtien Larbli Tchintchibidja, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, participated in a high-level meeting of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Group of Friends to the United Nations on March 17, 2025. The event took place in New York alongside the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

In her statement, Vice President Tchintchibidja emphasized that "Beijing+30 is being commemorated in the same year that marks the milestone of ECOWAS’ 50th Anniversary and this presents an opportunity for the Commission to reaffirm its commitment to gender equality and women’s leadership as fundamental components of sustainable development and security."

The engagement led to the inclusion of the ECOWAS Permanent Observer Mission to the UN in New York into AWLN's Group of Friends, joining other missions such as those from AU, EU, and OIF.

The opening ceremony featured notable attendees including H.E. Madam Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations; H.E. Madam Bineta Diop, African Union Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security; H.E. Ms Sima Sami Bahous, Executive Director of UN Women; H.E. Ms Christina Duarte, Under-Secretary-General at OSAA; H.E. Ms. Antje Leendertse, Germany's Permanent Representative to the UN; and H.E. Amb. Fatima Kyari Mohammed, AU's Permanent Representative to the UN.
