On March 30, 2025, Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio joined Muslims nationwide to celebrate Eid-Al-Fitr at the State Lodge in Hill Station, Freetown. This celebration marked the conclusion of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting and spiritual reflection.
Speaking at the event, Sheikh Abu Bakarr Conteh, Imam of Hamdallah Mosque, expressed gratitude to Allah for the month of Ramadan. He emphasized the importance of unity, generosity, and spiritual consciousness acquired during Ramadan. Sheikh Conteh delivered a sermon on the theme "The Welfare of Planet Earth: A Concern for Mankind," urging citizens to act responsibly toward the environment, citing Quranic obligations to protect it.
President Julius Maada Bio expressed joy in partaking in the Eid-Al-Fitr festivities with the Muslim community and acknowledged the importance of the occasion for both Muslims and Christians, united under the worship of one Almighty God. He highlighted the country's religious tolerance as a model for peaceful coexistence and emphasized the importance of environmental protection, aligning with Sheikh Conteh’s sermon.
First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio expressed gratitude to Islamic scholars for their dedication during Ramadan and thanked President Bio for his support to the Muslim community, including providing food assistance. She prayed for continued blessings and unity for Sierra Leone.
The Eid-Al-Fitr celebrations reiterated the country's dedication to religious harmony and national unity.
