ECOWAS Commission President meets Egyptian Ambassador to discuss regional security

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, met with the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mohamed Fouad, at the Commission's headquarters in Abuja on October 24, 2024.

Discussions during the meeting centered on Egypt's cooperation with ECOWAS concerning peace and security across Africa, with a particular focus on the Sahel region. The talks also addressed efforts to reactivate the ECOWAS Standby Force.

Dr. Touray expressed gratitude towards Egypt for its support in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and peace and security. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering strong relations between ECOWAS and Egypt to address security challenges faced by member states.
