His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has concluded his visit to Apia, the capital of Samoa, after attending the 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The meeting aimed to foster discussions on unity, democracy, peace, and cooperative solutions to shared challenges among heads of government from across the Commonwealth.
Hon. Leota Laki Lamositele, Samoa’s Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Labour, along with senior government officials and members of the CHOGM 2024 organizing team, bid farewell to President Bio. They expressed their hopes for a safe journey back home and prosperity for the people of Sierra Leone.
The summit was praised as a success for rekindling a collective commitment among Commonwealth nations to reinforce multilateral cooperation. Delegates left with renewed aspirations to address common issues guided by the values in the Commonwealth Charter.
Key outcomes included the election of Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and Afioga Fiame Naomi Mataafa as Chairperson of the Commonwealth.
President Bio and other leaders reaffirmed their commitment to development, democracy, and peace within the Commonwealth framework.
In Magiagi village in Samoa, President Bio was honored with the title "Tuioataga," or King. This recognition took place on October 26th.
President Bio also participated as a panelist in the 27th Commonwealth Business Forum 2024 held on October 24th in Apia.
