Stoptober, the annual campaign aimed at helping people quit smoking, is returning this year. The initiative is encouraging smokers in St Helena to join millions worldwide who have successfully quit. Smoking remains a significant public health concern, causing 7 million deaths annually. Quitting smoking is considered one of the most effective ways to improve health and reduce the risk of serious illnesses.

Stoptober encourages smokers to commit to quitting for the month of October. According to the campaign, participants who quit for 28 days are five times more likely to stop smoking permanently. Benefits of quitting include improved physical health, better breathing, and increased financial savings.

The campaign offers various free resources to support individuals on their journey to quit smoking. These resources include behavior change support and information about the quitting process.

For access to these free resources, contact SmokeFree St Helena by telephone at 25863 or via email at smokefree@sainthelena.gov.sh.
