The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly is set to begin on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, with the opening of the General Assembly Debate. Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio and Ireland’s Prime Minister Simon Harris co-chaired an interactive dialogue on "Enhancing Multilateralism for International Cooperation."

During the session held in New York on Sunday, September 22, 2024, both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening multilateral efforts to address global challenges. President Bio remarked on the significance of collective action in tackling issues that transcend national borders.

"Multilateralism remains our best tool for addressing complex global problems," said President Bio. He further noted that collaboration among nations is crucial for achieving sustainable development goals and maintaining international peace and security.

Prime Minister Harris echoed these sentiments, highlighting that cooperative frameworks are essential for managing crises such as climate change and global health emergencies. "Our shared future depends on our ability to work together," he stated.

The dialogue served as a platform for member states to discuss strategies to enhance multilateral cooperation. Participants underscored the need for inclusive approaches that consider the voices of all countries, regardless of size or economic power.

As world leaders prepare for the upcoming General Assembly Debate, discussions from this interactive dialogue are expected to influence broader deliberations on how best to reinforce international partnerships.
