As part of the evaluation of regional and national responses as well as interventions in drug prevention and control, the ECOWAS Commission and ENACT will organize a seminar on September 11, 2024. This seminar aims to officially launch the 2023 West African Epidemiology Network on Drug Use (WENDU) report.

The event is co-hosted by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Enhancing Africa’s ability to Counter Transnational Crime project (ENACT), funded by the European Union.

The 2023 WENDU report is the fourth regional document focusing on illicit drug trafficking and use in West Africa. It provides updated estimates and trends on drug abuse, supply, and trafficking in substandard, spurious, falsified, and counterfeit medicinal products within the region. The data for this report was collected by WENDU National Focal Points (NFPs) from ECOWAS Member States and Mauritania.

The launch will make the 2023 WENDU report available for programming, policy-making, and advocacy efforts aimed at addressing the social, health, and economic impacts of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in West Africa.
