President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., held a meeting today with the delegation of the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Commission President H.E Omar Touray, at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia. The discussions focused on nation-building, reconciliation, and Liberia's future.
H.E Omar Touray conveyed ECOWAS Commission's appreciation for the warm reception and congratulated President Boakai on his election and peaceful transition of power. He highlighted the importance of this achievement for both Liberia and the Sub-region. Ambassador Touray assured support for Liberia’s bid for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.
"Nation-building is important, and we will continue to support you as President in your efforts to lead all of Liberia, with ECOWAS remaining at the service of the country," stated Ambassador Touray.
President Boakai expressed gratitude for ECOWAS's visit and their support during Liberia’s electoral process. He acknowledged the Liberian people's commitment to ensuring a peaceful democratic transfer of power. Emphasizing conflict prevention, basic services provision, and security sector strengthening, he said, "Liberia in the next two years will be an example for the region, a peaceful and transparent country where all citizens, including oppositions, can enjoy freedom and transparency."
The meeting also covered future plans with President Boakai reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability. "The A.R.R.E.S.T. Agenda will be achieved steadily," he noted optimistically.
Discussions included progress on establishing a war crimes court, regional challenges such as potential misuse for proxy wars, countries threatening to leave ECOWAS, and strategies for a united front at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting underscored continued dialogue and cooperation between Liberia and ECOWAS to address diverse regional challenges.
