On Wednesday, July 18, 2024, a delegation from the ECOWAS Water Resources Management Centre, led by its Director, Mr. Alexis Kouassi, visited the Water Museum in Gampela, Burkina Faso.
This visit was part of the commemoration of the 49th anniversary of the sub-regional institution. As part of this celebration, a donation of computer and office equipment—including a computer, printer, video projector, and external disk—was made to the museum to support its activities in the region.
Mr. Alassane Samoura, promoter of the museum, welcomed this gesture. He stated that it would bring more innovation to the museum institution which is undergoing significant administrative restructuring and help it keep up with new information and communication technologies.
During their visit, the delegation appreciated both tangible and intangible heritage related to water. Through activities that were both entertaining and educational, they learned about various techniques for finding water using indigenous knowledge. They also explored the importance of promoting hygiene and sanitation through initiatives like the “latrine Maracana” game and understood women's experiences in fetching water.
Mr. Alexis Kouassi expressed his admiration for the simplicity and depth of the museum's message as well as its impact on visitors. He conveyed words of encouragement and congratulations to Mr. Samoura and his employees. Additionally, he reaffirmed the Water Resources Management Centre’s commitment to supporting future projects at the museum. The day concluded with a tree planting ceremony involving a baobab tree on behalf of the centre.
