His Excellency Dr. Alieu Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, received a delegation from the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) on June 11, 2024, at the headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Nigeria. The visit was part of UEMOA's study mission to the ECOWAS Directorate of External Relations and its Unit responsible for coordinating projects with ECOWAS Development Partners (EDPCC).

Mr. Arnaud Cédric Kiema, Director of UEMOA Cooperation, expressed gratitude to the ECOWAS Commission and its President for their warm reception. He emphasized that this mission aims to strengthen coordination among ECOWAS, UEMOA, and partners while sharing experiences related to the creation of the Development Partners Coordination Unit linked to the Directorate of External Relations.

H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray welcomed the UEMOA delegation and highlighted UEMOA's significant role in regional integration efforts. He commended the establishment of coordination mechanisms between ECOWAS and UEMOA concerning partner projects for effective inter-institutional collaboration.

Dr. Touray underscored the importance of maintaining these coordination mechanisms for effective monitoring of development instruments such as the European Union's Neighborhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI). He wished the delegation a successful mission.

The study mission from June 11 to 13 aims to facilitate experience-sharing and best practices between both institutions' structures for better coordination and implementation of externally funded programs. Discussions will also focus on establishing a coordination mechanism with national structures responsible for managing external resources operations, replacing ROAC-FED; defining methodologies for a workshop planned in July 2024 related to EDF-funded programs; and consolidating documents produced under the 10th and 11th EDF PIRs at both Commissions.
