Africans and visitors throughout the continent will have access to Movit Media Corp.'s MOVIT phone app, thanks to a three-year licensing agreement between Movit Media and Spiritage SA Ltd. of Johannesburg, South Africa.
MOVIT lets mobile-device users use their mobile phone number anywhere in the
world, incurring only local calling rates -- and bypassing roaming charges -- through a local SIM
card without an international
phone number or an expensive mobile calling package.
"The African continent has a population of approximately 1.2 billion and is made up of over 60 sovereign states and countries," Stephen Inouye, Movit's chief financial officer and acting CEO, said. "The population is mobile, and roaming fees are an integral part of their personal and business lives. The use of the MOVIT app technology will result in significant savings for customers throughout Africa."
Under the terms of the licensing agreement, Spiritage can sub-license the MOVIT app to other entities in Africa. Additionally, Spiritage will develop Brodacall, a branded app, using the MOVIT App technology as a blueprint.
"The signing of the licensing agreement with Spiritage represents a huge endorsement and validation of the value of the MOVIT App technology," Inouye said. "We look forward to working with Spiritage and developing the Brodacall app, and introducing it across Africa."
Spiritage will pay Movit a one-time license fee of $100,000, 20 percent of all
sub-license agreement fees and a 2 percent royalty on all revenues generated by
the Brodacall app.
