Burkina Faso's new permanent U.N. representative begins tenure

Yemdaogo Eric Tiare is the new permanent representative of Burkina Faso to the United Nations (U.N.).

Tiare's appointment became official on Monday, when he presented his credentials to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Tiare's official biography said he was born Dec. 31, 1960; is married; and has three children. Tiare graduated from the University of Quebec in Canada, earning a master of arts degree in public administration, with a concentration on international management. He went on to earn another degree in international administration.

Tiare's ambassador experience is extensive. He has served as Burkina Faso’s ambassador to France, Spain, Monaco, Portugal and the Holy See, as well as ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and personal representative to the president of Burkina Faso to the International Organisation of La Francophonie.

Additionally, Tiare has worked at Burkina Faso’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, serving as secretary-general from 2011-13 and director-general for legal and consular affairs from 2008-11.

Tiare also worked in Burkina Faso's South African Embassy, where he was minister counselor from 2007-08, and in its Embassy in Ivory Coast from 2003-07.

Tiare also has worked in education, holding posts as a sessional instructor in development international law at the National School of Administration and de Magistracy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 2001-03 and in public relations at the Université Libre du Burkina from 2002-03.
