Ghana business forum examines private sector's role in fighting climate change

In the past several years, there has been a major push for sustainability among businesses in Africa.

To support this trend, the Ghana Sustainable Business Forum (SBF) was held recently in Accra. The event was sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Ghana, the Embassy of France to Ghana and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The focus of the forum, the fourth in a series, was to discuss the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (CoP21), which began in Paris on Monday runs through Dec. 11. The Accra forum focused on the role that the private sector should have in climate-change issues.

Also discussed was Ghana's participation in CoP21. The nation has been active in developing climate-friendly programs and putting those practices to use in the country's businesses and technology ventures.

As the forum ended, Ambassador of France to Ghana François Pujolas said the private sector must play a "key role" in fighting climate change. In conclusion, Pujolas cited Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of "The Little Prince": "We don't inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."
