After three recent African elections, African Union Commission Chairwoman Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma sent congratulatory messages to John Magufuli, Tanzania's newly elected president, as well as re-elected Presidents Alassane Ouattara of the Ivory Coast and Alpha Condé of Guinea.
“I am greatly pleased to send this congratulatory message to President John Magufuli and the people of Tanzania," Zuma said. "It was refreshing to witness the peaceful transition which took place in the country on Oct. 25, and it is my hope that this great nation will continue moving forward in this trajectory.”
Zuma likewise praised West Africa's Ivory Coast and Guinea for their successful, peaceful elections.
“I am also delighted to congratulate Presidents Alassane Ouattara and Alpha Condé of Côte d’Ivoire and Guinea as they begin their second and final terms in this high office,” Zuma said.
A few more elections will be held in Africa this year, with 20 more coming in 2016. Zuma said she hoped those elections would go as smoothly and peacefully as the ones that have taken place so far in 2015.
