Seasoned British diplomat Guy Warrington was recently named the British High Commissioner for Sierra Leone.

Warrington has been working with the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office since 1986. The appointment to Sierra Leone will be his 10th foreign mission, with previous stints in Singapore, New York, Geneva, Seoul, Dubai and other locations around the world.

He will replace Peter West, who will move on to another Diplomatic Service appointment. West had been British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone since February 2013.

High Commissioners are the United Kingdom's presence in the 53 member nations of the British Commonwealth, an intergovernmental collection of countries, including many former colonies. They are responsible for overseeing High Commissions, Deputy High Commissions and Consulates.

The British High Commission in Freetown, Sierra Leone, lists its current goals as sustainable development, security, access to justice and adhering to the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals.

Warrington will begin his duties in March.
