The 4th Meeting of the ECOWAS-Donors Consultation Committee of ECREEE was held on November 25, 2024, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Sediko Douka, Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalization of the ECOWAS Commission.
Mr. Assani Dahouenon, Programme Officer for "Promotion of a Climate-Friendly Electricity Market in the ECOWAS Region (ProMERC)" at GiZ, opened the meeting by congratulating the ECOWAS Commission and ECREEE for maintaining this consultation framework.
The Consultative Committee includes Commissioners from the ECOWAS Commission, representatives from member states holding the current presidency of ECOWAS, experts and private sector representatives from West Africa's sustainable energy sector, and main technical and financial partners such as AECID, BAD, GiZ, UNIDO, and WASCAL. The committee discussed the implementation status of recommendations from their previous meeting, reviewed activities for 2024, and examined work plans and budgets for 2025.
ECREEE’s technical and financial partners acknowledged its contribution to achieving SDG 7: “Ensure access for all to reliable, sustainable and modern energy services at an affordable cost.” They committed to enhancing support for renewable energy promotion and sustainable energy infrastructure development in West Africa.
The inaugural meeting took place on August 20-21, 2021 in Praia (Cabo Verde), followed by meetings on November 7, 2022 in Abuja (Nigeria) and October 14, 2023 in Praia (Cabo Verde).
ECREEE collaborates with various technical partners including AECID, AfDB, GiZ, UNIDO, WASCAL, ADA, IDRC, European Union, USAID, UNDP, World Bank among others.
The agency invites stakeholders to attend the 9th edition of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum on November 28-29 at the Abidjan Exhibition Centre.
