State House, Freetown, Tuesday, 5 November 2024 – Mrs. Asmaa James, the Deputy Head of Sierra Leone’s Mission to Brussels and the European Union, has officially bid farewell to President Dr. Julius Maada Bio at State House. In her meeting with the President, Mrs. James pledged her commitment to work closely with the Ambassador in representing Sierra Leone effectively and fulfilling the mandates given by the government and its citizens.
Timothy Musa Kabba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, introduced Deputy Ambassador James to President Bio. He informed that she had recently completed her legislative approval by the Sierra Leone Parliament for her role in Brussels. The farewell ceremony was noted as a significant event for Deputy Ambassador James, her family, and the nation as she prepares for her new responsibilities in Europe.
Mrs. James expressed gratitude towards President Bio for appointing her to this position. She highlighted her transition from journalism, where she engaged with EU programs extensively, to now representing Sierra Leone in Brussels as smooth and productive. She emphasized the importance of her role in fostering relationships with representatives from various EU member countries.
President Bio congratulated Mrs. James on her appointment and expressed confidence in her capabilities to manage the challenges of her new position. He stressed maintaining strong diplomatic relations with the European Union is crucial and believes both Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador are prepared to enhance Sierra Leone’s bilateral ties with the EU. He encouraged Mrs. James to seek support whenever necessary while extending his best wishes for success in her mission.
