The ten new members of the Board of the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) participated in an information and presentation session on October 3, 2024, in Banjul, The Gambia. This session covered ERCA’s mandate and legal instruments and concluded with the election of their Chairperson.
The session was chaired by Mrs. Massandjé Toure-Litse, Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, while Dr. Siméon Koffi, ERCA Executive Director, moderated it. Dr. Koffi introduced the legal instruments which include three Additional Acts, four Regulations, and six manuals of procedure that define the framework for competition regulation within ECOWAS.
Dr. Koffi also highlighted ERCA’s accomplishments such as enhancing regulatory frameworks, conducting market analysis, supporting member states, building capacity, and fostering cooperation with other regional economic communities and international organizations.
In the afternoon session, board members elected Dr. Juliette Twumasi-Anokye from Ghana as Chairperson of the ERCA Council for a four-year term. Her role will involve coordinating the Council’s activities in collaboration with ERCA’s Executive Director.
The first meeting concluded with closing remarks from Mme Massandjé Toure-Litse.
