The U.S. Agency for International Development's West Africa Trade and Investment Hub hosted a training for development specialists from seven West African countries aimed at clarifying the exporting process last week in Washington, D.C.

Coordinators staffing African Growth and Opportunity Act Trade Resource Centers in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Senegal were expected to be walked through the intricacies of supporting export businesses, promoting trade facilitation, providing trade intelligence and sharing best practices.

The centers collectively have already helped 2,700 businesses looking to take advantage of the new U.S. program, which allows businesses in sub-Saharan Africa to export a long list of products to the U.S. without duties or quotas.

Each center offers a variety of services meant to help business owners understand the program, prepare their products properly for exporting, and understand exporting rules and regulations.By establishing a network of support centers in West African countries, U.S officials are hoping to improve the spread of accurate information about the export program, as well as technical and hands-on assistance.
