Facebook uses Social Media Week Lagos to enhance partnerships in Nigeria

Facebook showcased its commitment to Nigerian content companies and developers at Social Media Week in Lagos Feb. 22 to Feb. 26.

Social Media Week Lagos is Africa's largest technology, new media and business conference.

"With 16 million people in Nigeria visiting Facebook each month, we are constantly looking for ways to deepen our partnerships in the country," Facebook Product Partnerships Manager Emeka Afigbo said. "Social Media Week in Lagos was a perfect opportunity for us to spend time with the Nigerian developer and content community to share expertise and get feedback to shape our strategy going forward."

Facebook offered master classes and workshops as well as a day dedicated to assisting Nigerian developers on growth hacking and designing social applications. Developers learned about mobile development and how to increase their consumer base and engagement through the use of tools, such as Facebook Social Graph.

The Nigerian community was also informed about the progress of the Free Basics program that provides basic Internet services without data charges to those living in growing countries. Numerous new partners have been added to the program, including the SmartBusiness website, which gives people the information they need to launch and run businesses using web-enabled devices.

"We were inspired by the innovative thinking that we saw from the Nigerian partner community and look forward to working with them to deliver rich, personalized services and solutions for people and businesses in West Africa," Afigbo said. "Nigeria’s agencies, people and businesses are ahead of the curve in using mobile-first solutions to connect."
