The African Union Commission's Administration and Human Resources Management Directorate announced a new initiative Thursday meant to raise professional competency and leadership skills across Africa.
The African Union Leadership Academy will help train African leaders in workplace development, capacity building, project management, effective policy design and other nuances of leadership.
The new academy is designed to support the goals of Agenda 2063, a 50-year action plan developed by the African Union to boost African development, technology, infrastructure, connectedness and overall competitiveness.
Agenda 2063 is broken down into 25-year, 10-year, 5-year, and shorter-term plans. It aims to unite and propel Africa by taking advantage of the opportunities provided by new technology, a globalized world and African unity.
The academy will also serve as a collector of young African talent.
“This project lies at the heart of the priorities and flagship projects of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want," Chairperson of the African Union Commission Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma said.
Agenda 2063 was established to mark the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity, which was established on May 25, 1963. The group's original intentions were to coordinate cooperation among African states, raise living standards across Africa, defend the sovereignty of African states, eradicate colonialism and find diplomatic resolutions to conflicts between states.
