A candlelit vigil is set to take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 19:00 at the Jamestown Market on St Helena, in honor of victims and survivors of domestic violence. This event is part of the island's ongoing efforts to promote awareness for White Ribbon Day, an international campaign focused on ending violence against women and girls.

Community members are invited to attend the vigil and light a candle to remember those affected by domestic violence, demonstrating solidarity and commitment to eradicating such violence. The vigil aims to serve as a reminder of the collective responsibility to work towards a future devoid of fear, violence, and abuse.

White Ribbon Day originated in Canada in 1991 when a group of men decided to confront violence towards women. It has since expanded into a global initiative, observed in various countries. St Helena's candlelit vigil is a part of this worldwide effort advocating for change and equality.

The event encourages all community members to participate by lighting a candle and standing together in a shared resolve to end domestic violence on the island and beyond.
