Senegalese and Iranian diplomats present credentials to Gambian president

Two diplomats have presented their letters of credence to President Adama Barrow, marking the start of their diplomatic duties in The Gambia. H.E. Mariam Sy from Senegal and H.E. Hassan Asgari from Iran assumed their roles as High Commissioner and Ambassador Plenipotentiary, respectively.

President Barrow emphasized the significance of promoting peaceful coexistence to foster development between The Gambia and Senegal. He urged High Commissioner Sy to continue enhancing the bilateral relations founded on shared values and languages between the two nations. "He expressed optimism that her tenure will further solidify this relationship," according to a statement.

The Gambian President extended greetings to President Basirou Diomaye Faye, his government, and the people of Senegal. In response, High Commissioner Sy reaffirmed Senegal’s dedication to deepening bilateral ties as directed by President Faye.

In a separate meeting with H.E. Hassan Asgari, President Barrow expressed appreciation for renewed relations with Iran and conveyed best wishes to Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian. The discussion included strengthening cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels and addressing challenges faced by Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries.

Ambassador Asgari expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and praised the decision to resume ties with The Gambia, noting common values shared as Muslims. He wished President Barrow a blessed Ramadan.

Both diplomats assured President Barrow of enhanced cooperation in economic, trade, and security sectors.
