From March 17 to 21, 2025, a meeting of experts is taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Organized by the Directorate of IT Services of the ECOWAS Commission, the purpose is to review and validate new IT policies and procedures.
The workshop aims to align these policies with best practices and meet global operational requirements. The focus areas include acceptable use of IT resources, security measures, data management, compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and employee responsibilities.
Prof. Nazifi Abdullahi Darma, Commissioner for Internal Services at the ECOWAS Commission, attended the opening ceremony alongside H.E. Ambassador Fanta Cissé, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Côte d’Ivoire. Prof. Darma stated that this workshop is part of efforts to enhance the security of ECOWAS information systems and improve service delivery.
"This meeting also marks an essential step towards bringing ECOWAS procedures into line with the evaluation criteria of the European Union’s pillars," said Prof. Nazifi Abdullahi Darma.
Sectoral directors, experts, and IT managers from various ECOWAS Institutions are participating in this workshop. The agenda includes adopting a manual of IT policies and procedures and assessing a draft data protection policy.
By the conclusion of this meeting, stakeholders aim to reach consensus on implementing the new IT policy while identifying any remaining gaps or issues.
