ECOWAS hosts EU delegation to bolster strategic partnership

A delegation of European Union ambassadors visited the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission on June 20, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria. This visit underscores the growing importance of the partnership between the two institutions.

The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Damtien Larbli Tchintchibidja, Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission. It is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration in areas such as economic and sustainable development, security, democratic governance, and institutional strengthening.

During the visit, both ECOWAS and the European Union reiterated their commitment to deepening their strategic partnership. They expressed a shared desire to continue working together to address regional and global challenges while promoting peace, stability, and prosperity.

Mrs. Tchintchibidja thanked the European Union for its continuous support in helping ECOWAS achieve its objectives. She was joined by Dr. Abdel-Fatau Musah, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, along with several Directors of the ECOWAS Commission.

The European Union delegation was led by Mrs. Samuela Isopi, Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, and Mr. Richard Young, Head of its West Africa Division in Brussels. The delegation included ambassadors accredited to Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Senegal and Togo.
