In an effort to implement a regional climate strategy, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, via its Department of Economic Affairs and Agriculture, has joined forces with the National Council on Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The collaboration resulted in a workshop aimed at socializing Nigeria’s long-term low-carbon development strategy. The event took place on May 7, 2024, in Abuja.
The workshop convened key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers for deliberations on strategic proposals designed to foster sustainable development while mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. The event served as a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing best practices, and collectively devising a plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 for Nigeria. Representation from the Commission was provided by the Directorate of Environment and Natural Resources.
