International Monetary Fund (IMF) Deputy Managing Director Min Zhu landed in Botswana Monday to attend regional conferences.
While in Botswana, Zhu will deliver a keynote speech at a conference in Gaborone focused on the challenges small- and- middle-income countries are facing in sub-Saharan Africa. Zhu will meet with President Ian Khama and officials.
Zhu will also deliver a keynote speech when he is in Ghana at a conference addressing the value of enhanced data for better macro-policies on the continent. He will also meet with President John Mahama as well as other senior leaders and representatives of civil society.
“I look forward to productive meetings with President Mahama and his colleagues as they address important economic challenges, most importantly how to restore macroeconomic stability,” Zhu said. “As is highlighted in the on-going satisfactory performance of Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility-supported program, the country is working hard to address fiscal and external imbalances, improve its business environment, and promote opportunities for growth all of which is key to the recovery of the country’s efforts to create jobs and kick-start growth.”
Both conferences are jointly organized with the IMF, an organization of 188 countries dedicated to encouraging global monetary cooperation, high employment and sustainable economic growth and international trade.
