Tigo Ghana Chief Executive Officer Roshi Motman was recently honored as CEO of the Year at the 2015 COM World Series AfricaCom Awards.
The award honors leaders who have made significant contributions to the telecom and information technology sectors in Africa.
Motman has been chief executive officer of Tigo since 2014 and was the first to hold the position. In accepting the award, she credited Tigo's success to the company's management, staff members and customers. Motman said Tigo will continue to be dedicated to local hiring and promoting from within the company when possible
“We are passionate about promoting gender diversity at Millicom and I am delighted that we have such a fantastic role model in Roshi," Cynthia Gordon, Millicom's Africa chief executive officer, said. "We need to continue to ensure that the same chances for success and digital access are available to not only all our employees but to all African women as they make and influence more of the decisions around the purchasing of smartphones and use of data."
Motman is also active civilly, serving as chair of the Ghana Telecoms Chamber and acting as a mentor to young women interested in careers in technology.
