On March 20, 2025, the Education Skills and Employment Portfolio (ESE) hosted Careers Fair 2025 on St Helena. The event was held at New Horizons Leisure Park and the Mule Yard, offering attendees the chance to connect with potential employers and explore career opportunities on the island.
Chief Minister Julie Thomas opened the fair with remarks emphasizing its importance for students, job seekers, and those considering a career change. "This day has been generated for you; whether you are a student entering the work environment, an individual progressing in your chosen career or indeed those who wish to undertake a changed career path or simply someone looking for inspiration or confidence to pursue a business idea. This is your day!" she stated.
Thomas further encouraged participants to engage with businesses and organizations present at the fair. "I hereby encourage you to seize the opportunities that Careers Fair 2025 has to offer you. Be the positive change in your life. Always remember that opportunities don’t happen, you create them."
Support Officer Carley Peters described the fair as an opportunity for professional development: “Career’s Fair 2025 was designed to equip attendees with essential career advice, showcase exciting job opportunities, and foster overall professional development."
The event featured various exhibitors including SHG portfolios, Legislative Council, Connect Saint Helena, Solomon and Company (St Helena) Plc, St Helena Brewery among others. Presentations were made by representatives from sectors such as Marine Conservation and Emergency Care.
Demonstrations were also provided by St Helena Fire and Rescue Services throughout the day.
