Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio and First Lady Fatima Maada Bio attended a memorial service for the late Paramount Chief Prince Lappia Boima IV. The event took place at Government Secondary School in Bo City on March 22, 2025. The ceremony was attended by family members, mourners, past and present students of Bo School, members of the Council of Paramount Chiefs, and residents of Kakua Chiefdom and Bo District.
President Bio served as the Chief Mourner and spoke about the significant loss felt by the chiefdom, district, and nation. He emphasized celebrating the life and legacy of the late Paramount Chief while acknowledging death as an inevitable part of life. “We must praise the life well-lived by the late Paramount Chief, recognizing his dedication and selfless service to his people,” President Bio stated.
The President extended condolences on behalf of Sierra Leone's government and people to the bereaved family and Kakua Chiefdom. “I want to extend our condolences and posthumous regards to our brother, father, colleague, and fellow citizen. We pray for his soul and ask that the Lord grants him eternal rest.”
First Scripture Reading was delivered by Mrs. Yatta Boima from James 4:13-16 which warns against boasting about future plans. Reverend S.E.B. Johnson delivered a sermon emphasizing God's presence in all things. He noted that despite plans made by Paramount Chief Boima for his chiefdom, he could not foresee his passing.
Reverend Johnson said: “The Scripture reminds us that there is a God who governs all things... Planning without God leads to disappointment.” He urged mourners to live with love for God stating: “What we do with our lives is our gift to God.”
Family members, friends, Old Bo Boys Association (OBBA), tribal heads, and Council of Paramount Chiefs paid tribute describing Prince Lappia Boima IV as a visionary leader with a lasting legacy.
Born in 1970 with Admission Number 5932 at Bo School before graduating from Njala University; he began teaching at Christ King College then elected as Paramount Chief in 2009 serving until his death.
Mourners reflected on how he dedicated himself fully towards improving people's lives concluding this solemn occasion hoping for peace upon his gentle soul.
