President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. addressed the Supreme Court of Liberia at the opening of its March 2025 term, emphasizing his administration's dedication to the rule of law. Invited by Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh, President Boakai spoke at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia before an audience that included justices, legislators, and other dignitaries.
In his remarks, President Boakai highlighted the importance of an independent judiciary for Liberia's democracy. He urged the justices to deliver justice "without fear, favor, or delay," as outlined in the Liberian Constitution. He also expressed gratitude to Chief Justice Yuoh for her service since 2022 and wished her success in future endeavors.
Reflecting on Liberia's judicial history, President Boakai acknowledged past chief justices such as Samuel Benedict and Louis Arthur Grimes for their contributions to shaping national jurisprudence and defending sovereignty. He encouraged the judiciary to uphold legal traditions vital to sustaining democratic governance.
The president reiterated that upholding the rule of law is a key component of his ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. He pledged continued collaboration with the judiciary to maintain an effective legal system.
President Boakai concluded by extending best wishes for a successful court term and reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining separate but equal branches of government.
