President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia has announced a focused agenda for his administration, emphasizing immediate action over future political ambitions. During the first Cabinet meeting of the year, President Boakai stressed the importance of serving the Liberian people now rather than focusing on the 2029 elections. He stated, “If your focus is on 2029, you may respectfully resign. My priority is serving the Liberian people—right now.”
The President underscored his commitment to national development and accountability, launching a full investigation into unresolved cases involving mysterious deaths. These include missing boys and auditors' deaths. "The Liberian people deserve answers," he said, promising no case would be ignored and justice would be served.
President Boakai instructed law enforcement agencies to expedite their investigations, work with international partners if necessary, and keep the public informed regularly. He emphasized his administration's zero tolerance for impunity and its dedication to transparency.
Alongside these investigations, President Boakai outlined key priorities for his administration:
1. Economic Strengthening & Public Financial Management – Aiming to close loopholes and eliminate waste in government spending.
2. Road Connectivity – Accelerating infrastructure projects in southeastern Liberia.
3. Youth Employment – Developing innovative solutions to address youth unemployment.
4. Airport Security & Mineral Smuggling – Enhancing security at Roberts International Airport due to reports of illegal mineral trafficking.
5. Accountability & Governance – Ensuring transparency in investigations of corruption and mismanagement cases.
Specific directives were also issued for immediate action:
- Upgrading the front of the Ministerial Complex by the General Services Agency (GSA).
- Ensuring streetlights across Monrovia are fully operational.
- Supporting and empowering the National AIDS Commission.
“These directives are not suggestions but mandates,” President Boakai asserted, expecting decisive action from his Cabinet members.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders—including law enforcement agencies, government institutions, and civil society—to fully cooperate in ongoing investigations and implementing these directives.
