Apprenticeship Week is being celebrated on St Helena from February 10 to 16. This week aims to highlight the importance of apprenticeships for individuals and the community. Career Access St Helena (CAS) is emphasizing the benefits of apprenticeship programs, encouraging people to consider this pathway for career success.
Apprenticeship training programs are designed to equip individuals with specific skills required by employers, leading to better long-term salary prospects and career progression opportunities. To be eligible for an apprenticeship, individuals must be currently unemployed, motivated to pursue this path as part of their career preparation, eager to gain necessary skills, experience, and qualifications, and committed to actively participating in the local economy.
The programs offer various benefits such as cultivating a skilled local workforce through practical work experience, structured training, and academic study. They also provide improved career development and progression opportunities while enhancing the profile of participating organizations and employers. Apprenticeships enable the island workforce to adapt effectively to evolving community needs. Participants gain nationally recognized qualifications, develop new skills and knowledge, and acquire essential work-based experience.
For Prince Andrew School (PAS) students interested in apprenticeships, CAS provides guidance through consultations leading up to final confirmations in August. The program begins with an Induction Day in September.
Individuals outside PAS interested in apprenticeships should register their area of interest with CAS. CAS will explore potential opportunities with relevant stakeholders. Available positions are advertised, followed by interviews and consultations for interested individuals. Conditional admission offers are made before confirming the apprenticeship and work placement. An Induction Day marks the beginning of the program.
CAS collaborates with stakeholders to provide comprehensive careers information, advice, and guidance to help individuals determine their progression pathway through the Apprenticeship Programme.
