Sierra Leone and Algeria commit to strengthening bilateral relations

State House, Freetown – On January 9, 2025, Sierra Leone's President Dr. Julius Maada Bio welcomed a visit from Mr. Sofiane Chaib, the Special Envoy of Algeria and Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad. This meeting emphasized the commitment of both nations to strengthen their diplomatic relations.

Timothy Musa Kabba, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, highlighted that this visit signifies President Bio’s continuous efforts to enhance bilateral ties with Algeria. He referenced President Bio's previous state visit to Algeria in March 2023 as foundational for this renewed engagement.

“This visit is a product of President Bio’s diplomatic strides with Algeria. It underscores our shared commitment to deepen bilateral ties and foster mutual growth,” said Minister Kabba.

Mr. Chaib delivered a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirming Algeria’s willingness to fortify its partnership with Sierra Leone.

“On behalf of His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, I bring a message of friendship and solidarity to the government and people of Sierra Leone. We are here to reiterate Algeria’s commitment to strengthening our relationship and exploring new avenues for collaboration,” stated Mr. Chaib.

President Dr. Julius Maada Bio thanked the envoy and his delegation for their successful visit and expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation between Sierra Leone and Algeria.

“We are optimistic about advancing our partnership with Algeria. This visit marks a step forward in widening the scope of our diplomatic relationship, and we look forward to exploring opportunities for mutual benefit,” said President Bio.

The meeting concluded with both parties affirming their dedication to fostering closer ties between their countries.
