Her Excellency Mrs. Damtien Tchintchibidja, Vice-President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, and His Excellency Mr. Mamadou Oury Bah, Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of Guinea, have inaugurated a national coordination center in Conakry. This center is part of an early warning and response mechanism for security risks in Guinea.

The launch event on November 20, 2024, saw participation from Guinean government representatives, technical and financial partners such as the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), the European Union (EU), the United Nations system, civil society actors, and risk management experts. The center is a result of collaboration between ECOWAS and Guinean authorities as part of ECOWAS’ regional early warning mechanism. It aims to provide tools for detecting, analyzing, and preventing crises that could impact people's lives in Guinea.

Mrs. Damtien Tchintchibidja expressed gratitude to General Mamadi Doumbouya, the government, and people of Guinea for their hospitality and commitment to regional integration. She highlighted that “the establishment of the national centre on Guinean soil is an important step towards achieving this aspiration." She added that it represents "a significant step forward in the peace and security architecture of Guinea and the region as a whole."

The Vice-President emphasized that “this Centre represents much more than an infrastructure; it is a symbol of the collective commitment of ECOWAS and the Republic of Guinea to work towards a safer and more prosperous future for their people." She assured that "ECOWAS will continue to support Guinea in its efforts to guarantee the security and well-being of its citizens.”

Following the launch was an inaugural statutory meeting chaired by Prime Minister Bah. This meeting laid out operational procedures for both regional and national early warning mechanisms.

This initiative marks progress for Guinea by providing a robust early warning system aligned with ECOWAS directives. ECOWAS has reaffirmed its commitment to offering ongoing technical support to help Guinea achieve strategic objectives related to security and sustainable development across West Africa.

The National Coordination Centre now stands as a key player in strengthening human security, promoting resilience among populations, and contributing actively to sustainable development within Guinea.
