On May 28, 2024, Vice President of Liberia Jeremiah Kpan Koung paid a courtesy call on Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio. The visit aimed to observe and learn from Sierra Leone's efforts in transformational and human capital development.

Sierra Leone’s Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh introduced Vice President Koung, explaining that the Liberian delegation was on a two-day working visit. This visit was initially requested during Dr. Jalloh's state visit to Liberia. He highlighted that the Liberians were there to study the progress made under President Bio in health, education, infrastructure, and industry.

Dr. Jalloh mentioned that the delegation would be visiting key ministries and sites such as the Ministry of Health, the Office of National Security, and factories established during President Bio’s tenure.

Vice President Koung conveyed greetings from Liberian President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and stated that their primary objective was to learn from Sierra Leone's developmental strategies and their impacts both locally and internationally. He expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended President Bio's achievements since his election.

Koung recalled his first visit to Sierra Leone via a ferry but noted significant improvements such as a new bridge at the border crossing point and tarred roads leading to Freetown. “Mr. President, we are happy and proud of your infrastructural development,” he said, emphasizing their intent to take back valuable insights for Liberia’s benefit.

President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the delegation warmly, noting the close ties between the two countries despite geographical separation. He acknowledged global challenges but stressed that governments must mitigate these effects for their citizens without relying on excuses.

Bio emphasized the importance of having a dedicated team in government focused on achieving set goals with sincerity. “I have to keep my cabinet busy... We learn by imitating... With commitment and hard work... we are sure of achieving our goals,” he remarked.
