The ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) recently conducted an information and sensitization session in Côte d’Ivoire to disseminate Community Provisions on Competition and Consumer Protection. The delegation from ECOWAS/ERCA, led by Commissioner Massandje Toure-Litse, engaged with national stakeholders in Abidjan on April 29 and 30, 2024.
During the session, Commissioner Massandje Toure-Litse and the ECOWAS experts briefed stakeholders on ERCA’s mandate, intervention scope, and ongoing activities. They also discussed collaboration frameworks with Member States, emphasizing market studies, data collection, and capacity-building initiatives.
ERCA's focus on market studies and data management was highlighted, with the Competition Information System playing a crucial role in monitoring competition at the ECOWAS level. The Electronic Competition Information System facilitates the processing of complaints and referrals to ERCA, promoting efficient complaint management.
Moreover, ERCA and the UEMOA Competition Directorate are working towards enhancing cooperation to ensure effective implementation of Community competition policy within the region. Regular consultations and a Cooperation Agreement between the two Commissions aim to streamline actions in competition matters.
The visit to Côte d’Ivoire marks a significant step in promoting competition and consumer protection within the ECOWAS region, showcasing ERCA's commitment to fostering fair market practices and safeguarding consumer interests.
