Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio Attends OIC Summit in The Gambia

Banjul, The Gambia, Saturday 4 May 2024 – Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio joined other Heads of State at the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in The Gambia for the 15th summit themed "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity Through Dialogue for Sustainable Development".

President Bio expressed gratitude to President Adama Barrow and the Government of Saudi Arabia for hosting the conference, stating that Sierra Leone was proud to be part of the diverse community bound by shared values and aspirations. He highlighted the significance of the conference in fostering peace, progress, and prosperity among member nations, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and cooperation within the OIC.

Acknowledging global challenges, President Bio noted the shifting geopolitical dynamics and emphasized the need for urgent solutions to conflicts affecting regions worldwide. He specifically addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, offering sympathy to the affected families and calling for practical measures to ensure global well-being.

President Bio assured that Sierra Leone stands ready to play a leadership role in promoting world peace and stability in alignment with international law. The President’s participation in international summits and commitments reflects the country’s dedication to advancing sustainable development and fostering unity among nations.
