The recent meeting of the ECOWAS Council of the Wise resulted in the issuance of the Abidjan Declaration on May 2, 2024.
During the meeting, several key figures shared their perspectives:
1. "The Abidjan Declaration reaffirms our commitment to promoting peace and security in the West African region," said Chairperson of the ECOWAS Council of the Wise, Dr. Aminata Toure.
2. "We must continue to engage in dialogue and diplomacy to address the root causes of conflict," emphasized Secretary-General of ECOWAS, Mr. Ibrahim Sani.
3. "The Abidjan Declaration lays out a roadmap for enhancing conflict prevention and resolution efforts in the region," highlighted Ambassador Fatoumata Cisse, who represented the UN Special Envoy for West Africa.
4. "We urge all member states to work together in implementing the provisions of the Abidjan Declaration," stated the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ms. Aisha Abdullahi.
The Abidjan Declaration is expected to guide the efforts of the ECOWAS Council of the Wise in fostering peace and stability in West Africa.
