The meeting of the International Committee preparing the second edition of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Forum for African Research and Innovation (FARI-2025) will be held from June 25 to 28, 2024, in Cotonou, Benin.

The aim of the meeting is to approve the terms of reference for the scientific committee, draw up and validate the roadmap for practical organization, and propose the main theme and sub-themes, discussion panels, and the period for organizing FARI-2025.

Experts from Member States, scientific networks and learned societies in the ECOWAS region, regional and international organizations and institutions, consultants, staff from the ECOWAS Commission, and resource persons will attend.

The Forum for African Research and Innovation (FARI) is an ECOWAS forum dedicated to science, technology, and innovation. It stems from strategic axis 5 of the Action Plan of the regional organization's science, technology, and innovation policy.

FARI focuses on disseminating research results, promoting local knowledge, and protecting scientific, technological, and intellectual property. It also serves as a platform for regional exchanges among various stakeholders including researchers, innovators, decision-makers, private sector entities as well as technical and financial partners.

In essence, FARI aims to promote public understanding of science's role in socio-economic development. It seeks to elevate regional scientific and technological research profiles while creating a regular framework for dialogue among all those involved in science and innovation within Africa and globally.

Additionally, FARI is dedicated to promoting inventions by showcasing inventors' work along with start-ups in the region. Eventually it aims to become one of the major science and innovation events in ECOWAS.
