MainOne executives are pledging to boost Africa's connectivity through improvements in the continent's submarine cable network.

MainOne maintains a submarine cable system running along the coast of West Africa, helps build fiber optic networks, and operates data storage centers. Collectively, this infrastructure promises to improve access to high-speed information across Africa, company officials said.

“With its track record of 100 percent availability on its cable since inception, MainOne continues to ensure it remains at the forefront of technology and management strategies to sustain its track record of excellence," Acting Chief Technical Officer Ravi Kannikeswaran said. "This is why we continue to champion the cause for submarine cable protection in West Africa and constantly upgrade our system to ensure the required performance.”

Kannikeswaran spoke at SubOptic 2016, a conference for the submarine cable industry that happens every three years to discuss industry trends and provide an opportunity for industry actors to network. This year's event was held April 18-21 in Dubai.
