U.S. Ambassador to Ghana Robert Jackson will attend a ceremony today in Accra celebrating the opening of new DNA scanning equipment at Green Medical Centre.
U.S. officials said the DNAScan -- developed by ITSI Biosciences -- will help expedite a variety of DNA test results, including paternity tests, crime information and the identification of remains. Prior to the new technology, these and other tests had to be sent out of the country for completion.
The DNAScan allows Ghanaian officials to get results locally within 90 minutes.
U.S. officials touted the installation as a product of the United States' trade mission to Ghana in September.
