Erin Energy Corporation appointed John Hofmeister to serve as board chairman and Segun Omidele as CEO Monday.
The Houston-based company focuses on oil and gas exploration and production in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in the countries of Nigeria, Gambia and Ghana.
Hofmeister and Omidele will replace Erin Energy's current Chairman and CEO Kase Lawal who is retiring.
"As part of our ongoing strategy, the roles of chairman and CEO are to be separated as we continue applying global standards to our corporate governance and ensuring complete independence of the board," Lawal said. "I am very excited about the future growth potential of the company and will be available to the board in an advisory capacity."
Hofmeister is a former president of Shell Oil Company, where he led its U.S. coordination team of businesses and functions. He is currently on the boards of international energy services provider Hunting PLC and certification company Applus Services SA.
Omidele has been with Erin Energy since 2011 and currently serves as its COO. He previously was the senior vice president for Exploration and Production at Allied Energy Corporation.
"This is an exciting time for Erin Energy," Lawal said. "The board of directors has identified two outstanding individuals to take the company to the next level. Both John and Segun are intimately familiar with our business, each has a diverse set of skills and a combined wealth of experience in the energy sector."
Hofmeister and Omidele will assume their newly appointed roles the day after Erin Energy's annual shareholder meeting, set to be held in late May.
