University of Nottingham celebrates Nigerian students

The University of Nottingham in Nigeria co-hosted an event with UK Trade and Investment Thursday in order to build relationships among institutional academic partners, alumni, current students, future students, academic staff at the university and stakeholders.

Nigerians make up the largest demographic of African students studying at the university. More than 200 students there are from Nigeria.

As the largest group of students at the university, the Nigerian Students Society recently earned a Certificate of Appreciation from the Nigeria High Commission. The award honors the society's commitment to developing and encouraging students from Nigeria.

More than 30 of the new postgraduate students from Nigeria have earned a variety of distinctions, including the Chevening Scholarship from the British Government, the Developing Solutions Masters Scholarships from the University of Nottingham, the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship and the Vice-Chancellors Awards for Research Excellence.

The Sunday Times University Guide has listed the University of Nottingham among the top 1 percent of universities around the world. It is also noted as one of the first universities to embrace and implement an international mind-set for higher education.

Its diverse student body includes more than 43,000 students coming from over 150 nations. Many of them are from top campuses in China, the U.K. and Malaysia. Others have strong connections to other universities throughout the globe.
