Samoura starts UN position in Nigeria

Fatma Samoura officially began her tenure as United Nations (UN) resident coordinator and United Nations development program (UNDP) resident representative in Nigeria Friday.

In this role, Samoura will oversee the coordination and implementation of UN programs in Nigeria. Samoura hopes to work on poverty eradication and humanitarian pursuits.

Samoura will work closely with the Nigerian government to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Born in Senegal, Samoura has served the UN for more than two decades and previously served the UN as resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative for the Republic of Madagascar.

She has also served the UN as Guinea's country director and representative, Cameroon's representative and country director, Dijibouti's representative and country director and Italy's senior logistics officer.

Fluent in English, French and Spanish, Samoura also worked in Chad's office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs.
