Hosted by the British High Commissioner, the Chevening Alumni Ghana Association was launched Wednesday and attended by many past recipients of scholarships and fellowships.
Some of Ghana's most influential people have been recipients of Chevening scholarships and fellowships; worldwide, more than 44,000 people have received Chevening scholarships and fellowships.
The Chevening honorees are chosen by members of British embassies and high commissions. Past awards have been given to people across 160 nations; in the 2015-2016 award cycle, more than 1,500 Chevening scholarships were given, 20 to students from Ghana.
Ghanaian recipients of the awards, which have been given since 1983 and are funded by the United Kingdom's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, include Ghana Defense Minister Benjamin Kunbour; Augustina Mills, senior manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers; Augustine Otto, director of research and business development for GIPC; and Bernard Avle, director of news at Citi FM.
