Pope Francis and Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, the president of the Republic of Togo, recently met to establish as well as maintain security and peace in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The meeting included Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and the secretary for Relations with States.
At the meeting, the world leaders agreed that there are currently good relations between Togo and the Holy See; it is important that these good relations continue for the benefit of both parties. They also discussed ways that they could collaborate further in the future.
The leaders mentioned that the Catholic Church has made significant contributions to the Republic of Togo for its development. The church has also been an important part of the Togolese population as it has been a central player to the area’s educational growth.
Lastly, the leaders discussed the ways that both Sub-Saharan Africa and West Africa still face a wide variety of challenges. It is important for the area to encourage security and peace. In order for this to be successful, there must be a joint commitment.
