Sierra Leone strengthens ties with global partners to boost national development

Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the CEOs of GOAL Global and Allied Irish Bank at State House in Freetown on January 9, 2025. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to support Sierra Leone's development agenda and strengthen existing partnerships.

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Ballay, introduced Siobhan Walsh, CEO of GOAL Global, and Colin Hunt, CEO of Allied Irish Bank. She highlighted GOAL Global's over four decades of service in Sierra Leone, particularly in the health sector.

James Riak Mathiang, Country Director of GOAL Sierra Leone, expressed gratitude for President Bio's support. He noted that GOAL operates across seven districts and aligns with the government's Big Five Game Changers initiative. Mathiang mentioned their contributions to providing clean water and advancing the blue economy under the Feed Salone initiative.

Mathiang also praised First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio for progress in reducing teenage pregnancies. He acknowledged GOAL’s partnership with her office as crucial in addressing this issue and thanked President Bio for fostering a supportive environment for their operations.

President Bio commended GOAL Global for its significant contributions to Sierra Leone. He emphasized that their activities align with government priorities in human capital development, especially empowering women and girls.

“GOAL’s footprint across the nation is tangible and appreciated,” said President Bio. He assured continued prioritization of partnerships with organizations like GOAL Global to further national development goals.

The meeting highlighted mutual dedication to sustainable development through collaboration between the government and international partners such as GOAL Global and Allied Irish Bank.
